Dynamic Query Mode (DQM) Explained
The success of your business depends on your ability to analyze information, quickly find the right answers, and make timely responses. To meet this challenge, IBM Cognos Business Intelligence provides an enhanced Java-based query execution mode while still maintaining native access to the leading data sources to replace the former query engine. That execution mode is called dynamic query mode.
The dynamic query mode is recommended for new applications of IBM Cognos Business Intelligence.

It offers key query optimizations to address query complexity and data volumes with improved query execution. It also provides advanced query capabilities such as in-memory caching, which provides benefits for query planning, execution, and results while maintaining users' security permissions.
You can visualize and troubleshoot the query logs generated by the dynamic query mode with IBM Cognos Dynamic Query Analyzer, a query visualization tool.
You can use the DQM with the following OLAP data sources:
- SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW)
- Oracle Essbase
- IBM Cognos TM1®
- Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services. ( 10.1.1)
You can use the DQM for OLAP over relational models with the following relational data sources:
- Oracle
- DB2
- SQL Server
- Netezza
- Teradata
DQM greatly increases the performance of dimensionally modeled relational (DMR) packages. Rather than the complex SQL statements formerly generated for DMR packages, the dynamic query mode engine now generates true MDX queries which are eventually decomposed by the new dynamic query mode engine into smaller, better performing SQL queries.
Ultimately, DQM queries should run significantly faster in most implementations.
