Are you planning your upgrade from TM1 to Planning Analytics? After you review all the benefits, steps and costs, then you want to look at using Planning Analytics for Excel (PAX).
Check out our previous blog on cost.
PAX is the latest Excel integration tool from IBM for TM1. Lodestar recommends you install the Planning Analytics for Excel (PAX) as part of the upgrade. You can move from TM1 Perspectives buttons to Planning Analytics for Excel. But don’t worry, it’s not difficult.
Perspectives Action Buttons Updated for PAX.
IBM was kind enough to create a process to update your TM1 Perspective action buttons with a few short steps.
Before you Update for PAX
But before you start, you should know a few things.
- Enable trust access to the VBA project object model. Trust access to the VBA project object model must be granted in Microsoft Excel. See
- An administrator may upgrade action buttons in public and private workbooks.
- A non-administrator may only upgrade action buttons in private workbooks.
Steps to Update Action Buttons for PAX
First open PAX and connect to your Planning Analytics environment. Then select Options on the top Planning Analytics ribbon and click Upgrade Action Button.
Warning: Lodestar Solutions recommends you create a backup and select a location for the backup. It’s optional but strongly recommended because when you convert it, the buttons will not work in Perspectives anymore! So, define your backup and define a log directory by clicking browse under the conversion log.
Once you have your directories selected, click OK. Then navigate to the file location. Select the files and click Upgrade.
Once you upgrade you can share the PAX workbook with others by publishing it. The workbook needs to be saved as a Macro Enabled Workbook .xlsm first, then you can publish it back to the server by selecting Publish on the top Planning Analytics bar.
You Should Know
If the workbook containing the action buttons was open during the upgrade process, you will need to close and reopen the upgraded workbook from the IBM Planning Analytics data source to complete the upgrade.
